I RUN2REVIVE FOR BOBBY RAY ALLEN (10/21/1932--12/11/2010)
My name is Stephen Price and I'm running to help find a cure for Alzheimer's. I was born and raised in Walker Louisiana and blessed to grow up in a warm southern household. I'm a married father of three and to this day I still reside in the same small town I grew up in. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling and working ( I manage our family owned heavy civil construction company). When not working, traveling, or spending time with my family you will find me indulging in my favorite hobbies. I enjoy riding horses, motorcycles/atv's, boating the rivers and lakes of south Louisiana, and of course exercising.
I grew up with a passion for adventure. From the time I was a small boy I have pushed the limits in everything I do in life. It was that sense of adventure that always drove me to want to challenge my body and my skills. "If I see something tall.......I want to climb it, If I see something wide....... I want to cross it (jump, swim, or run)". That was a motto I seemed to live by as a young man, and today at the age of 49 I haven't lost that desire.
In 1995 I had an uncle whom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He and my aunt had no living children and my parents (with the help of me and my siblings) took on the responsibility of making sure they were taken care for the remainder of their lives. I watched and seen the terrible effects of Alzheimer's as it ate away at his mind. He lived for 15 years (in our care) with the disease slowly taking away his basic functions. He lost the ability take care of himself, much less his wife (whom had a stroke some years after his diagnosis). He never complained and always kept a smile. It was the people who took care of him that struggled to find a smile. How cruel it seemed that any person should have to endure such a long slow death sentence.
I don't ever want to see anyone I know or love ever endure such an awful disease. It is my hope that by helping to raise attention to the disease we might somehow help find a cure.
The man I lost to Alzheimer's was Bobby Ray Allen (10/21/1932--12/11/2010). He too shared a passion for adventure and the great outdoors.
