I Run2Revive for my Step-Brother
I started to run in 2008, while living in London and participated in my first marathon raising money and awareness for neurodegenerative diseases. I caught the long distance bug and continued to run in marathons and then participate in triathlons, eventually competing in two Ironmans. We moved to California several years ago and fell in love with trail running.
I stay active for different reasons and one of them is to live a longer, healthier life by challenging my mind and body with new goals. One of those has been to run the Grand Canyon, and when I learned of the group Run2Revive it inspired me to run with them since I lost my step-brother to ALS. He was diagnosed in his early 30s and while he his body deteriorated very rapidly, he lived another 10 years. It was devastating to watch a loved one in the prime of their life lose this battle.
I hope these groups and events will bring more awareness to ALS, which will lead to more funding, research and a cure.
